I have played them on every gig I do that requires drumset. Most recently I've used them in the Yellowstone Big Band and in my teaching at the Yellowstone Jazz Camp in Cody, WY. We also use TreeHouse drums here at Washburn Univerisity in the WU Jazz Ensembles and for the Total Percussion Camps each summer. I have a set in my studio at Washburn and students studying with me get to play on it each lesson when they study drumset. The sound. They remind me of my old Ludwig drums I had in high school. Derek can make them sound however you want them to sound. I also think they look great. I was able to describe the color I wanted and they came up with it. It so great to be able to get these wonderful drums right here in Topeka, KS.
BIOGRAPHY: Now retired, Tom Morgan is the former Director of Percussion Studies at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where he taught applied percussion and directed the Washburn University Percussion Ensemble. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education and music theory and composition from the University of Northern Colorado and a Doctoral degree in percussion performance from the University of Oklahoma. Along with his teaching duties at Washburn, Dr. Morgan had a large private studio made up of elementary, junior high and high school percussion students from the surrounding community. He is the author of A Sequential Approach to Fundamental Snare Drum, and A Sequential Approach to Rudimental Snare Drum, snare drum instruction methods, The Musical Marimbist, 10 Sequential Rudimental Snare Drum Solos, and The Drumset Reading Workbook, all published by C. Alan Publications.
As a performer, Dr. Morgan is very active in the Topeka and Kansas City areas, performing and recording with numerous groups, including the Trilogy Big Band, a seventeen-piece jazz ensemble with two CDs on the Sea Breeze Jazz recording label. He has also recorded and performed with Kansas City’s Boulevard Big Band and the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra. In addition, Tom has performed with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, and the Topeka Jazz Workshop big band. He is a regional endorser for Vic Firth drumsticks, and Sabian Cymbals, and performs regularly on TreeHouse Drums, which are hand made in Topeka, Kansas.
