Some words about the front of the bass drum--lots of reasons why the front hoop is metal. First, it’s cheaper for us and therefore cheaper for you. 8 tom lugs cost a bit less than 8 bass lugs, as well a tom hoop with short rods run less than a wooden hoop with 8 claws and longer tension rods. Also, when you need to change the front head, tom heads are cheaper than bass drum heads. Along those lines, not all places carry 16” and 18” bass drum heads. Second, labor to craft another wooden front hoop is more than just installing a metal hoop. Third, the drum as a whole is shorter with the metal hoops. Fourth, a metal hoop with shorter rods weigh less than a wooden hoop w/claws and longer rods. All that being said, TreeHouse can certainly make these kits with matching wooden front hoops for you; it happens to be the most-requested Add-On Feature.
