Why Wood Hoops? |
Configurations |
In order for me to call a drum “Made in USA,” all of its components need to be made in the United States of America. As most hoops are made in the Orient, there are few domestic options. Enter Wood Hoops. There are a few craftsmen here Stateside who excel at building these components.
We went with the best! Jody at Stellar Hoops made the hoops for most of our 20th Anniversary Limited Edition drums, and can make hoops for your project! Of course we make drums with standard hoops, so ordering your custom project with metal hoops just means that the drums couldn’t be called 100% Made in the USA, the way we define it.
But then, besides the USA thing, Why Wood Hoops? These are options that can be added to any drum, and several artists choose wooden hoops for warmer rim clicks, rounder overall tones on toms, and unique visuals. Some styles require claws like on bass drums, while others are thicker and drilled for the tension rods to go straight through and can even feature different kinds of woods—it’s about options! Whenever you use wood hoops on a drum that you hit with sticks, think of them as consumables. They may last a lifetime, or they may wear out and need replaced every year, it just depends on how you play.
